Amanda Bossard was just out her high school days when she started her studies in marine biology at Alaska PacificUniversity in Anchorage. Bossard began her professional career in commercial seafood at the age of 1999, after she began working aboard the F/V Sunset, a 65' halibut schooner that has been a into a salmon tender for Murat Aritan, a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard is currently is married to Aritan and they have come together to prove their claims to the industry. They are both in favor of conservative and profitable management of sustainable seafood resources. In 2007, now a mother of two children Bella age three and Andre 1 Bossard then returning to living in Philadelphia, opened a direct market wholesale seafood distributor known as Otolith. Otolith's name is a loving reminder of Bossard's intimate knowledge about fish biology and her husband's many connections in the seafood business. It is common for them to be separated for up to 5 months in a row while they work towards financial and environmental goals which reflect their dedication to their independence no matter where they reside. Bossard as well as Isabella and Andre (ages 12 and 10 respectively) Return each year starting in July 2016, to Southeast Alaska for the summer harvest from wild salmon. In a small 42 salmon trolling vessel using hooks and lines to catch their targeted salmon, they work with Aritan for two months selling to local processors. They also continue to expand their direct-market seafood items sold via Otolith Sustainable Seafood by way by purchasing custom processing and packaging services provided by small processors to create unique wild-caught seafood that reflects their commitment to quality and the environment.
